Hippo
Hippo is a book of photography collected from various trips to London. Shot on film and printed 6x9 in a perfect bound format, the the work is focused on the tension inherent in linearity. Lasting and fleeting moments are positioned against the city and the unseen hippo bones beneath it.
Images of towering architecture and rising water levels speak to the passage of time, weather or not we acknowledge it openly. Protests, public figures, and wheelies across tower bridge copy the small moments where we strive for impact or fulfillment that are long gone already.
From the book:
Herds of tourists in plazas where hippos grazed. I wish we could start over knowing what we do now. Doubts and regrets wiped away.
London knows we don’t need to. Just keep growing, trying, and moving forward. Pandemic after pandemic, built over hippo bones. I'm sure hippos turn into pretty solid bedrock eventually.
To be a tourist in London, even for a brief time; how lucky to pass through the herd and allow ourselves forward.
